The Facts about my knee injury....
January 27th, 2008It was the NC State Fair October 16, 2005. I was a Red Cross First Aide Volunteer, running a lot of calls in a day. With all the people eating, drinking, and just over doing it. It was normally a fun time. Until, about 3pm on October 16 2005. When me and my team was told to response to a person seizing near gate 10. So we started to make our way through the crowd, which took 5 minutes due to no one cares about nothing but themselves. I was approximately 100 feet from the person where I stepped on a shingle that was covering a electrical wire, and it sent me barreling down to the ground. With my weight and the weight of my equipment (AED "Automatic Electro Deliberator" and the jump bag) my right knee went right into the side of the ride support. With not thinking I quickly jumped up and picked up the equipment and continued to the patient. I then got a glimpse of myself. My hands were bleeding and my right pant leg was ripped and blood was running down my leg. I advised my team to treat the patient and I will do the paper work. After putting on gloves of course. We got that patient off to Rex Hospital in Raleigh, and I went back to the Red Cross Station at the Fair Grounds. I was treated by Art, a RN who pulled shingle grit from my wounds and cleans and dressed the wounds. A report was filed and I though I was ok. So I did not think much more about it. I worked till later that afternoon driving the cart, until I could not stand it no longer. My knee was just so swollen that I could not walk. I then went home and went to bed.
More to come..
